Its role
It is the reason WSA is an education rather than an enrichment programme. The freedom is in the doorway, not in the standard.
Relationships
It governs how Worlds progress, how Explorations increase in complexity, and how mastery is judged against observable evidence rather than completion.
In practice
A child may reach ratio through gear teeth instead of a textbook chapter — but they are held to the same understanding of ratio, and it is recorded only when they use it unprompted on an unfamiliar problem.
