A World

The Logic World

How much, how many, how certain — and does the reasoning hold?

What this World is

Why it is worth a childhood's attention.

Mathematics is the language every quantitative discipline eventually speaks. Met through real questions, it stops being a subject to survive and becomes an instrument.

The Logic World is one of ten permanent Worlds in the WSA knowledge architecture. It is not a theme and it does not rotate. Any interest that genuinely opens onto the questions below enters here, and keeps entering here, at increasing difficulty, for as long as the child stays interested.

Knowledge

The disciplines underneath.

  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Logic
  • Measurement
  • Modelling

Traditional school subjects this World covers

  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Further mathematics

Capabilities

What this World develops most strongly.

  • Problem solving
  • Critical thinking
  • Systems thinking

The questions

What this World keeps open.

  • How would we put a number on that?
  • How wrong could this number be?
  • Is this a pattern or a coincidence?
  • What is this graph not showing?

Progression

How this World is met from birth to eighteen.

Age is a signal, never the determinant. Each band describes an intellectual character, and what would genuinely demonstrate it.

0–3

Quantity in the body.

Knowledge

  • More and fewer
  • Full and empty

Skills

  • Matches one to one

What demonstrates it

Distributes one item per person without counting.

3–5

Counting with meaning.

Knowledge

  • Cardinality
  • Pattern

Skills

  • Counts a set and says how many

What demonstrates it

Continues a pattern they were not shown.

5–7

Measure.

Knowledge

  • Units
  • Comparison

Skills

  • Measures with a ruler and a scale

What demonstrates it

Chooses a sensible unit unprompted.

7–9

Data.

Knowledge

  • Tables and charts
  • Fair comparison

Skills

  • Chooses a chart type

What demonstrates it

Explains why one chart type was wrong for the data.

9–11

Rate and ratio.

Knowledge

  • Unit rate
  • Scale
  • Average

Skills

  • Compares by unit rate

What demonstrates it

Settles a real decision with a calculation.

11–13

Algebra as generalisation.

Knowledge

  • Variables
  • Linear relationships
  • Probability

Skills

  • Generalises a rule and tests it

What demonstrates it

Turns a repeated calculation into a general rule.

13–15

Modelling.

Knowledge

  • Functions
  • Gradient and change
  • Distribution

Skills

  • Fits a model to data

What demonstrates it

A model with parameters the child can interpret in context.

15–16

Formal reasoning.

Knowledge

  • Proof
  • Non-linear models
  • Sampling

Skills

  • Constructs a short proof

What demonstrates it

A proof or a justified model selection.

16–18

Mathematical judgement.

Knowledge

  • Calculus
  • Statistical inference
  • Uncertainty propagation

Skills

  • Chooses and critiques methods

What demonstrates it

An investigation whose method choice is itself defended.

Afterwards

Where this World goes beyond school.

  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Data science
  • Economics
  • Physics
  • Actuarial science

Qualification crosswalk

How this maps to external frameworks.

A mapping, never a claim. WSA does not award, accredit or guarantee admission to anything.

Cambridge InternationalMathematics / Additional Mathematics · IGCSE → AS & A LevelSupports preparation

Ratio, algebra, statistics and modelling recur throughout the syllabuses.

International BaccalaureateMathematics: Applications and Interpretation / Analysis and Approaches · DPConceptually aligned

Applications and Interpretation in particular rewards real modelling of the WSA kind.

Advanced PlacementAP Statistics / AP Calculus · APSupports preparation

Inference and rate of change are the two hinges; WSA prepares, it does not certify.

Topic overlap is substantial; NSC assessment requires an approved route.
